You may have heard, recently, the cries of indignation coming from All The Best People® in reaction to Louisiana’s legislation that would mandate the display of the Ten Commandments in public schools. I got to thinking about this, and it dawned on me that people were not objecting to displaying the Commandments on the grounds that it amounted to imposing religious values on children in defiance of the First Amendment. They might say that that’s their objection, but it isn’t, and in any case the assertion simply doesn’t hold up. Rather, these “enlightened liberals” object to displaying the Commandments because they disagree with every single one of them!
I had not really thought hard about this point, till recently. But it’s true: liberals and leftists despise the Ten Commandments. These people who object to displaying the Commandments in schools are the same people who insist on displaying the “Pride Flag” and imposing the values that that flag implies. They regard pride—specifically, taking pride in manifest sin—as a virtue, although the Bible tells us that pride is the mother of all sins. The Ten Commandments pose a threat to left/liberal values. We see this, if we look at each Commandment one by one:
I. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me.
Liberals and leftists deny the Judeo-Christian God. Either they have replaced God with Earth-worship or with neo-paganism, or they insist that the God of the Bible didn’t really say what the Bible says He said. They deny the divinity of Jesus. They demand de-population for the sake of “saving the planet.”
II. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
I hear remarks like, “If Jesus were here today, he would be the Grand Marshall of the Pride Parade,” or “Jesus taught us to tolerate everybody,” or “Jesus would not have condemned abortion in today’s society.” Those are true examples of taking God’s name in vain. Some people think this commandment refers simply to cussing. It doesn’t. “Taking God’s name in vain” is when you sin, but pretend that God approves of the sin, and insist that you’re doing it in God’s name.
III. Remember that thou keep holy the sabbath day.
I break this one sometimes, by doing unnecessary labor on the sabbath, but liberals and leftists insist on defying the sabbath, on the grounds that to do otherwise would be to impose religion on others.
IV. Honor thy father and thy mother.
Liberals and leftists actually encourage children to dishonor their parents! In government schools, children are taught that their parents are ignorant and untrustworthy, and they should rely on teachers and administrators instead. Children are taught to keep secrets from their parents, and to snitch on their parents, while teachers and government apparatchiks assume parental authority.
V. Thou shalt not kill.
Liberals and leftists regard abortion as not merely a right, but as a sacrament. “Shout your abortion!” they exhort. According to them, murdering your child in the womb is a good thing, a desirable thing, a courageous thing. Babies, by this line of reasoning, should be sacrificed for the sake of the mother’s convenience. Euthanasia is likewise regarded as desirable: not merely euthanasia for someone who’s already at death’s door, in unbearable pain, but also for people whose existence is an annoyance, such as a retarded or a physically incapacitated person. Liberals and leftists also support groups like Hamas, whose stated goal is to exterminate Jews.
VI. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Liberals and leftists encourage people to engage in disordered sex outside of Holy Matrimony. That is what “Pride Month” is specifically about! That is why the concept of marriage has been deliberately debased. That is why pornographic displays are encouraged. That is why birth control and abortion are routinely made available to children, without parental approval. Liberals and leftists insist that we must not only accept sinful practices, but applaud them!
VII. Thou shalt not steal.
Liberals and leftists encourage the defacement and destruction of monuments; they encourage non-enforcement of laws against shoplifting. They favor confiscatory taxation of anyone who is better off than they are. They favor weaponizing the judicial system to impoverish people with whom they disagree. In one way or another, the entire left/liberal agenda depends on theft.
VIII. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
Truth is simply not a value to the Left. Liberals and leftists will lie without shame, especially in the commission of slander and libel, in service of their agenda. I have personal experience of this. I have heard people on the Left state, explicitly, that it’s okay to lie about their opponents for the sake of the “greater good.” That’s right: they regard bearing false witness as a virtuous act.
IX. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house.
Abolition of home ownership is crucial to the globalist totalitarian agenda. “You will own nothing, and you will be happy.”
X. Neither shalt thou desire his wife, nor his servant, nor his handmaid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is his.
Covetousness is the very foundation of the liberal/leftist agenda! The driving emotion behind that agenda is a hatred of anyone whom you perceive to be better off than you—and if you happen to be better off than your neighbor, you’ll be shamed and browbeaten into approving of your neighbor’s covetousness. I’m reminded of the parable of the capitalist and the communist who are standing on the same street-corner watching a brand-new Rolls Royce go by. The capitalist thinks, “One day, I’ll have a car every bit as nice as that one.” The communist thinks, “One day, I’ll have that son of a bitch out of that car!”
Remember this, always: People are not basically good at heart. We are all concupiscent, i.e. naturally inclined to sin. Most of us want to do good, and often we do—but that is usually because we deliberately resist the inclination to sin. Most of us struggle, every day, to keep our natural badness under control. Sometimes, due to human weakness, we fail to control our badness, and we sin. But if we repent of those sins, God will forgive us. God’s mercy is infinite, and we show gratitude for His mercy when we strive to reform.
Some people are corrupt to the core, and absolutely don’t give a damn, so long as they don’t get caught. Many politicians are like this.
But evil is a completely different creature from badness. Evil people think they are good. They do evil, thinking that they are doing good thereby. These are the most dangerous people, because they not only destroy their own souls. They want, also, to destroy yours.
Two of the most instructive verses of the Bible are
Isaiah 5:20-21:
Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil, who put darkness for light
and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
and clever in their own sight.
